We made the decision to only breed Prairie dogs with sound bodies, personalities, and temperaments. Additionally, we decided to exclusively breed pedigreed, known-lineage Prairie dogs. This implies that neither breeding nor rescuing Prairie dogs will be our priorities. We aim to provide our adopters with as much information as we can on the lineage and genetic make-up of our Prairie dogs, including their pedigree. Our stock is obtained from trustworthy, moral breeders who are well aware of their ancestry.
areWe want to make sure that every Prairie dog bred and every pup born is healthy. We will not select to breed Prairie dogs with health issues or adopt them out of the colony without the adopter's prior consent because the lives and well-being of the Prairie dogs is our first priority. Our females are not bred until they are about mature, and we give them high-protein lab blocks during pregnancy to assist gestation, breastfeeding, and growth. Additionally, we do not breed our females more than twice in a lifetime. When they are old enough, prairie dogs are retired and kept here as pets for the rest of their lives.
All Prairie dogs are chosen based on their personalities. Only the friendliest and most docile Prairie dogs are selected to carry on our line. All puppies are handled as soon as their eyes open, and we encourage socializing until they are 12 weeks old, when they are placed in new homes. By then, they will be used to being handled by people and receiving tons of kisses.
Using the USDA criteria as our guide, we select Prairie dogs with the greatest genetic makeup to carry on our lines. Each mating is carefully chosen from a genetic perspective with the goal of enhancing the Prairie dog's type and features.
